On several of my last vRealize projects, I’ve had the challenge (one of many 😉 ) of getting direct access from the vRealize Business (vRB) to the internet to retrieve the latest vRB reference database from the VMware servers. There is a manual way to do this, but this involves opening a SR, sending them the though vRB created file and waiting for VMware support to reply with the updated file. It works but it takes some time and effort also from VMware support.
But now VMware came up with an improved way to update the vRealize Business reference database : https://vrb-hub.vmware.com/manualupdate
Update vRealize Business reference database process
Open the vRealize Automation (vRA) portal and log in to the portal with credentials that has “Business Management Administrator” rights. Then open Business Administration -> Business Management -> Update Reference Database.
You can see that the “Run Automatic Update” option is greyed out.
Click on “Manual Update Process”
And click “Generate and download file”.
Now open a browser that has internet connectivity and go to :
https://vrb-hub.vmware.com/manualupdate
Click on “Login” in the top right corner. And on the next page click “Sign Up”.
Fill in all the fields and don’t forget to add a vRealize Business license in the last field.
Now log in to the site and click “Agreement”
Read the agreement and click “I Agree” (and only if you agree of course ;))
Click “Upload File” and upload the generated file from one of the previous steps
And finally download the updated file!
Now go back to the vRA portal and upload the file to vRB by clicking on browse and selecting the reflib-*.*.*.*.enc file.
Click “Done”! Now wait for the following confirmation that the file is processed successfully.
And voila! You updated the vRealize Business reference database and the management can enjoy all the pretty graphs with latest updated values.
